It's that time of year again! November is quickly approaching and the NaNo's are buckling down in preparation. We have started meeting afterschool to give students time to plan their newest novel of the year out. The wonderful people at The Office of Letters and Light provided a workbook designed to help students make the hard decisions that often stall writing during the official NaNoWriMo.
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo officially starts November 1st and runs until November 30th. In school aged participants they are able to select their word count goal. The lowest I allow it to be set is 12,000 words. For adults that participate the word goal is set at 50,000 words.
I participate in this along with the students and aim for the 50,000 words.
We meet Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school from 330PM to 430PM. The most important thing to remember is your student will not reach their goal if they don't write outside of the times we meet. There are only 30 days in November so your writer needs to be writing around 400 words a day. If that seems like a lot, it is, but this is a challenge he or she signed up for so they need to push to reach that goal! (Keep in mind to make the 50,000 word goal adult writers need to write close to 2000 words a day).
